Product Description
Sane Man documents the unleashing of a major force in comedy!

The amazing comedian Bill Hicks passed away in 1994, but his legend continues to grow. This DVD shows a turning point in Hick's development. Sane Man is the first filmed document of a complete Bill Hicks performance; shot in 1989 - before Bill recorded his first comedy album. A newly-sober Hicks paces the stage like a wild animal, riffing effortlessly on a variety of his favorite topics. Bill's performance is unpredictable, beyond edgy and so focused you have to see it to believe it.

This is the first ever DVD release of this historic performance film, with a major upgrade and bonus extras!

EXTRAS: * Includes rare Hicks material, not heard on previous releases * Bonus extras include: 1. Outtakes from Sane Man 2. Hicks Biography 3. Previously unseen footage from the Outlaw years in Houston 4. Hicks as Elvis (in full suit!) 5. "Hicks on TV" essay 6. ...and a few surprises!

Recorded in Austin Texas 1989, Sane Man was one of many collaborative efforts between comedian Bill Hicks & director Kevin Booth. Sane Man served as a demo to get Bill his first HBO special, but many Hicks aficionados agree that Same Man is the BEST HICKS performance ever captured on camera.

Note from Kevin Booth. Sane Man was recorded on access TV equipment years before anyone owned camcorders, so if your looking for HI Fi get “Hicks Live” but, Sane Man marked the new Bill after being sober for 6 months. Its as if he stepped out of a cocoon and made the metamorphosis into the legendary comedian that has brought him so much attention since he died. I have seen this video so many times I can recite it word for word, but there is just something to the feeling that we captured that I cannot to this day put my finger on. Its almost like Bill was in some sort of trance. You could create a comic strip from the still frames of Bill’s expressions in this performance, and unlike the HBO specials the cameras were right in Bill’s face & the crowd was right at Bill’s feet. It is just a one of a kind performance. When Bill & I were talking before we filmed, we both wanted it to look like that first Richard Pryor movie, God Bill must have gone to the theater a thousand times to watch that. FYI right before Richard passed away, I was able to give him a copy of Sane Man & tell him what an influence he had been on Bill. His wife told me that he gave a thumbs up & cracked a smile.
